Seems people are enjoying the old retro racing pictures on the
Retro Night page so much, that we decided to add a retro racing pictures section.  As we get more pictures, we will add them (if you have any, email or bring them to the track).  Speaking of Retro Night (Tuesday, July 8), the Ridge Meadows track opened approximately in 1981, so we're asking people attending that night to dress up as they were in the 1980's.  We'll give away a prize to the best 80's look.  Remember next Tuesday is the Abby and Ridge Double Header.  Any rider who races both tracks will get a free t-shirt. Also on July 1, our Pro AMs, click the link for more info.

We, the Ridge Meadows BMX Executive (and its' riders) would like to THANK the Abbotsford Executive for putting on a great weekend of racing for the CBA Western Nationals at their track.  The pressure is on us to do the same August 2nd and 3rd.

Also, thanks to Sherri Weed for her idea of the "Keep Track of Your Wins" sheet.  This should help all riders keep track of when to advance.

It's Monday, so it must be time for gate practice and a chance to ride those new paved corners.  Check out the pictures up above (next to the date and time) for a complete view of the track.  Gate Practice is at @ 6:00 pm and our President, Dave Haldin, will make himself available to teach BMX orientation to any new rider and/or parent of rider absolutely free.  See you there.

We've been working hard on the track, the last straight has been totally redone and as our President Dave Haldin says, "it's got more rhythm than James Brown".   Just ride it, you'll love it.  The corners were also worked on and now have more flow.  The track is definitely faster and safer to ride, we took a ton of rocks out of the track and added fresh dirt for a smoother ride.  Pictures of the track have been posted.  Just a reminder, there is no official gate practice tonight at Ridge, we encourage everyone to head to Abbotsford to get ready for the Canadian National Championships this coming weekend.  We will race Tuesday, see you then.

Sunday, March 30, 2008

O.k. Daddio!!!  It's time for racing.  Our first race is Tuesday, April 1 and the only thing that can stop us now is mother nature.  So, weather permitting we will open on time this year.  Gate practice is a go for Monday, March 31, 2008 around 6 p.m.  (again, it all depends on the weather).  If you still have not applied for your BMX racing licenses, you can do it online at Cycling BC.  If you want to do it at the track, please show up either at Monday's gate practice or early Race Day Tuesday (we will have registration open at 4:00 pm), so as not to delay racing.   Thank you to the volunteers who showed up (we could have used more) to get the track ready this year.  Everybody who has seen the condition of the track has remarked that it looks much better than it did all last year.  Hope to see you Monday at gate practice, or at Tuesday night racing.

Tuesday, March 25, 2008

Wow!!!  Thank you to the volunteers that came Tuesday (despite the rain and muck).  We dug up many rocks and back filled it with fresh dirt.  The volunteers were getting wet and messy but the track was looking better and better (and much safer).  More work on the drainage and irrigation system was done, along with work on the new airline hose for the gate.  We accomplished quite a bit, but yet we have a little more to go.  One more work party, Saturday, March 29 @ 10am (or, when you can get there).  We can really use your help to finish off the track for Tuesday racing.  Hopefully, we'll even have gate practice Monday Night.  Check this web space Sunday for more details.  Again, if you have any time Saturday, please come out and lend us a hand.  Hope to see you there.

Thursday, March 20, 2008

Let's see, we've added a new irrigation system, a new air line hose for the gate and water drainage system for the starting gate.  We have plans to pave the corners in the up coming race season.  We are trying to make the track safer and faster.  We need more volunteers to show up at our next work party, Tuesday, March 25 at 4:00 pm (or when you can get there) to get the track race ready for Tuesday, April 1.  Remember, we are all volunteers trying to improve the track, please if you have any time next Tuesday -- lend a hand.  Pizza and water/pop will be supplied.  Hope to see you at the work party Tuesday, March 25.

Monday, March 10, 2008

The Ridge Executive met on Sunday, March 9, 2008 and have planned an exciting season of Racing at the Ridge.  But, first off, we have to get the track ready for our first race Tuesday, April 1, 2008.  So we need volunteers to show up at our first work party TUESDAY, MARCH 18 at 5:00 pm.  Food and drinks will be supplied to those who volunteer.  Please, if you can make it, show up and lend a hand.  The more people that come, the faster we can implement other plans for our track.  Just a reminder, for those who have not applied for their BMX racing licenses, you can do it online at Cycling BC.  If you want to do it at the track, please show up early April 1 (we will have registration open at 4:00 pm), so as not to delay racing.  Hope to see you at the work party March 18 at 5:00 p.m.
